Bawdsey Visual Storytelling Workshop – Saturday 21st May 8am – 11.30am

Join me for a morning group workshop at Bawdsey Quay exploring the art of visual storytelling through photography. The workshop will take place beside the River Deben in the little hamlet of Bawdsey Quay. This area stands at the mouth of the Deben and its coastline is a continually changing landscape of shingle banks and crumbling cliffs. It is an area threatened with coastal erosion and flooding but one that has played an important part in history. It was here that the worlds first operational radar station was established in 1937. This went on to play a pivotal role in the Battle of Britain in 1940.

The essence of the area is still very tranquil, but it is an environment that has been in a constant state of change and this is something we will consider during the workshop. We will explore various aspects of visual storytelling including:

how to use composition in visual storytelling

how to use apertures, focal lengths and viewpoints

how to use mood to convey emotion and a sense of place

how to tell a story through the use of a single image.

how to use a panel of images to tell a story

This workshop is suitable for all levels and cameras. You may wish to bring a tripod and a remote timer and filters if you have them (if not I have a range of Lee filters that you are welcome to borrow – (please ask when booking)

The workshop will finish with a coffee and discussion in the Boathouse Cafe.

This workshop is being run as part of Gill’s  Planet Suffolk Project

If you would like to find out more or submit a story to the project please have a chat with me during the workshop.
