Suffolk Coast Workshop

Saturday 11th April 9am – 4pm

The Suffolk Coast is a really diverse area with many interesting places to photograph. This workshop focuses on 3 very different locations – Shingle Street, Bawdsey and Felixstowe

We will begin at low tide at Shingle Street where we will have the opportunity to capture this wild location on the edge of the River Ore. At low tide vast banks of shingle are exposed creating interesting compositions which are all about shape and form.

Bawdsey is one of my favourite areas to explore. The coastline here is open to the elements and erosion has been a problem with the soft cliffs being especially vulnerable.  The workshop will start at East Lane where we will spend some time exploring the beach around the Martello tower.  This area is interesting for its history and its geology with the mudstone beach offering some great photographic opportunities at low tide. We will also look at compositions around the WWII gun tower and inland ponds and reedbeds.

From Bawdsey we will head to Felixstowe via Woodbridge for lunch in the Cherry Tree. Our time in Felixstowe will centre around Cobbold Point where we will look at long exposure photography around the distinctive breakwater.

During the workshop we will cover camera settings, composition, exposure, filters and various methods for putting together an image. There will also be an opportunity to practice long exposures for those who are interested and I have filters available for anyone who would like to borrow them.

This 7 hour workshop costs £110 and includes a one course lunch and transport between locations if required.
