Pin Mill Visual Storytelling Workshop – Sunday 12th June 8am – 11.30am

Join me for a morning group workshop at Pin Mill exploring the art of visual storytelling through photography. The workshop will take place beside the River Orwell in the tiny hamlet of Pin Mill. This is a fascinating area with sailing connections that go back hundreds of years. It is the location for the annual Pin Mill barge match and was also a favourite sailing location of children’s author Arthur Ransome who kept his boat here.

The essence of the area is still very much rooted in sailing and the river and this is something we will consider during the workshop. We will explore various aspects of visual storytelling including:

how to use composition in visual storytelling

how to use apertures, focal lengths and viewpoints

how to use mood to convey emotion and a sense of place

how to tell a story through the use of a single image.

how to use a panel of images to tell a story

This workshop is suitable for all levels and cameras. You may wish to bring a tripod and a remote timer and filters if you have them (if not I have a range of Lee filters that you are welcome to borrow – (please ask when booking)

The workshop will finish with a coffee and discussion outside the Butt and Oyster Pub.

This workshop is being run as part of Gill’s  Planet Suffolk Project

If you would like to find out more or submit a story to the project please have a chat with me during the workshop.

What is included:

3 hours of tuition

the use of ND filters for long exposure techniques (if required)
