Landguard Point Group Workshop

Saturday 13th June 9 – 12 midday

Join me for a half day photography workshop on Landgaurd Point exploring the art of composition and “seeing an image”

This is a fabulous area to explore the contrasts between the natural world and the more industrial container port. It is also an area full of history with several reinforced concrete huts, pillboxes, searchlight shelters and tank traps dotted around the beach. These man made structures are in stark contrast to the wild nature of the area which is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The beach supports a wide variety of flowering plants and the contrast between these and the more industrial landscape is something we will be exploring during the workshop.

We will work on identifying subjects, finding viewpoints, working with supporting elements using lines, shapes, patterns and textures.

This workshop is suitable for all levels of ability and cameras and is all about composition and the art of “seeing an image” rather than camera settings and technical data.

This is a 3 hour workshop and includes a printed handout and notes.

Participants are invited to submit their favourite images for comments and feedback after the workshop.

Description

Landguard Point Group Workshop.

Join me for a half day photography workshop on Landguard Point. During this workshop we will explore the art of composition and “seeing and image”

Landguard Point is a fascinating place to explore. Dominated by views of the docks it is also a nature reserve.

The shingle beach supports an wide variety of flowering plants which are in sharp contrast to the more industrial landscape of the port. This is something we will be exploring during the workshop.

This workshop is suitable for all abilities and camera types. During this workshop we will be exploring the beach starting at the viewpoint overlooking the docks. We will work on images that convey a contrast between the heavy industry of the port and the more natural landscape of the beach. We will be concentrating on various elements of composition and will look at viewpoints, adding depth, using lines, shapes, patterns and textures. We will also thinking a little about colour, light and working with details.

Landguard Pier is an old wooden structure full of character with some wonderful detail and texture and is another location where we can explore the theme of contrasts.

This workshop will include a series of exercises which will help you master the different aspects of composition.

The Landguard Point Group Workshop is a 3 hour workshop and includes a printed handout and notes.

Participants are invited to submit their favourite images for comments and feedback after the workshop.

This workshop is being run in conjunction with my new book “Photographing the Suffolk Coast” which can be purchased here >
